Sheridan from College Esports News here, after a much-needed Spring and Summer hiatus, College Esports News will be back for Fall 2025 and we’re excited for the next chapter.
In this announcement, I’ll share our thought process behind the hiatus and what to look forward to in CEN’s relaunch.
—
Initially, I thought that putting College Esports News on hiatus meant failure. I loved the project, the work we were doing, and our team but by the end of fall 2024, it was clear we had taken on a lot more than we could handle.
Many of us leaders experienced extreme burnout from the hours we were putting in before, after, and sometimes during work. As volunteers ourselves, we realized that it wasn’t worth putting our mental health at risk for a passion project.
Additionally, we realized that continuing without fixing our systems would have only made it worse. So in December, we decided to take our first real break since starting CEN – knowing it wasn’t the end, but a chance to rest before starting our next chapter.
The return
Our team has been working hard to prepare for our return this semester with a focus on sustainability and rebuilding the foundation of College Esports News internally.
Please expect a slower and smaller return from our team as we look to turn content arms back on gradually.
What you can expect:
With a smaller team than in previous semesters, we have decided we can focus on the following content this semester:
- Articles
- Torchbearers
- A handful of short-form content
As I mentioned before, things will look and feel different than in previous semesters. Our North Star is to rebuild a foundation that’s sustainable, one that reflects both our capabilities and our limits.
A variety of volunteer roles will return to College Esports News including script writer, on-camera talent, video editors, junior article writers, and social media. A variety of paid roles including on the Torchbearers project and Article Writers will return as well.
Historically, we have had a “the more, the merrier” mindset when it came to accepting volunteers, but with a smaller team overseeing the project, we must be more selective when we rebuild our team. Thank you for understanding.
If you’re interested in volunteering with us, please apply!
Values
With this return of College Esports News, I want to unveil the values that will guide our organization every single day.
- Tell stories with purpose – We uncover, share, and elevate the voices of college esports. Every piece of content we create exists to tell the story behind the headline.
- Get it right – Trust is the foundation of good storytelling. We do the work to make sure every detail is correct. We fact-check, credit our sources, and honor accuracy.
- Elevate our craft – Every article, video, or graphic is crafted with care and creativity so the story lands in the most powerful way possible.
- Uplift the community – We exist because of the community and for the community. That means collaborating, sharing credit, and shining a light on voices that don’t always get the spotlight.
Additionally, in line with our value of elevating our craft, College Esports News remains committed to human-centered storytelling and we vow not to utilize generative AI in the creation of our articles, graphics, or videos.
Fundraising
Finally, College Esports News will run a fundraising campaign for the 2025-2026 season. We will share more details about this campaign soon.
Your support helps us cover essential expenses such as website hosting, future travel, and paid roles on our original content series.
If you are not able to support CEN financially at this time, no worries. There are plenty of free ways you can support us:

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in what we are building. We’re excited for what’s ahead and we are so grateful to have you with us as we continue our story.
