Overwatch Collegiate returns in partnership with the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) for a second year.
NACE will operate both the Overwatch Collegiate Open events in addition to their Varsity tier competition – offering “varied opportunities” for schools to compete.
Similar to last year, the Overwatch Collegiate Open tournaments will take place in two splits across two semesters and will feature $30,000 (up $2,000 from Fall 2025 Open) in prizing for Fall and $60,000 (down $10,000 from Spring 2026 Open) for Spring.
Notable dates and a familiar format
Interested teams should move quickly as registration for the Open Fall event closes on September 16 – leaving just 12 days for teams to host tryouts, finalize rosters, and get properly signed up on NACE’s new platform, in partnership with Fenworks.
Fall Open 2026 Dates:
- Registration: August 10 – September 16
- Group Stage: September 24 – November 12
- Playoffs: November 14 – November 22
All “eligible participants in good standing” that play in the Open event will receive special Overwatch Collegiate participation rewards – including Esports Loot boxes, “incentives” from previous seasons, and new items.
The announcement also previewed the Spring Championship, confirming yet another LAN final. Overwatch Collegiate Spring 2026 concluded with the first collegiate LAN final since BlizzCon 2019, hosted at Full Sail University in tandem with the NACE Grand Finals event.
Viewership for the Grand Finals reached over 100,000 viewers on Twitch and featured viewer drops (in-game rewards) as incentive to watch.
Fall Open 2026 Format
The Fall Season largely follows a similar format to last year, split into group stage and playoffs. The group stage will feature 8 rounds of swiss across 8 weeks and the playoffs will feature a 32-team, single elimination bracket.
The Homecoming Playoffs will be seeded based on group-stage performance.

- Registration: Opens at the beginning of December and closes around mid-January
- Competition: Spans mid-January to mid-March
- Championship & LAN Finals: Spans mid-March to the end of April
New year, new season
Notably, the announcement alluded to the end of the Overwatch Collegiate Discord server (previously called Activision-Blizzard Collegiate). Discord communications will officially move to the NACE Discord server, in a new Overwatch Collegiate “Hub”.
